Contributions Challenge 1:   The Right to a Safe Home

So we are working away on the first challenge, with three students, Cole, Devon, and Hasan taking the lead.  We have looked at the challenge and the web sites and have begun planning our cartoon.   We also have a Google Doc based on talking to people in our community about their situations and what having a safe home means to them.  Currently, we are welcoming a number of Syrian families into our school and finding out just how much having a safe home really means.   We are also learning just how incredibly fortunate we are here in London, Ontario.

A story from the London Free Press

Children’s rights to a safe home

“Talking to Cleardale Kids”

We think that every child has the right to a safe home that they can come to everyday. This home should be free of drugs or abuse. This home should have well built walls, floors Doors and proper roofs. They should also have access to safe water and food. They should be able to feel safe in their community, should have a safe and cared for environment in which they should not feel scared. A child should not feel afraid to share their feelings in their home and community. There should be a stable government that they can rely on to keep them safe. Their home should be safe from threats such as natural disasters or a war that could be happening.

We interviewed a student from our school whose family is Kurdish and came to Canada from Iraq.  Here is what he said.

We asked “Why did you leave”

He said “cause of the war in 2007."

We asked “Was your home safe?”

He said “It was pretty safe but I was scared of dangers.”

We asked “How is it living in Canada compared to  your home in Iraq.”

He said “Really boring and quiet.”

He also said that he had to work in Iraq when he was about ten for about a year to get money for his family.

We also interviewed  two students who just arrived here from Syria.  Fortunately, we have many students  who speak Arabic at our school who were able to act as translators for us.

We asked “Why did you leave Syria? ”

They said “ We were scared that something would happen to us”

We asked “Did you go to school in Syria?”

 They said “Yes”

We asked “Did you stay anywhere else before coming to Syria?”

They said “We stayed in an apartment in Jordan

We asked “Did you have to work in Syria?”

  They said “No we didn’t."

We asked “What is the difference between your home here and your home in Syria

They said “ Here we live in townhouses and in Syria we lived in an apartment.

We asked  “How is it living in Canada?”

They said  “ We like it here it is safe here.”

Here is our cartoon, conceived of by Hasan, Devon and Cole and produced by Devon.

This is something we did just to get our ideas flowing and we thought we would add it to our page.

What we value about having a safe home Why each child in the world should have a safe home What we might be able to do to help make this happen
I value knowing that each night, I go home to a place that is warm and dry, with a bed to sleep in, food to eat and people who care about me. Every child in the world should have a safe home so that they can be children, can play, can experience growing up with family and friends, so they have enough to eat, so they can go to school knowing their world is safe. We can learn more about the world, we can look at issues in our own community that make children unsafe, we can raise money, we can talk to our politicians and urge them to commit more to taking care of children around the world.
I value having a nice safe house and having a place to sleep every day. The reason why each child should have a safe and compatible home is because I think each child has the same right's as all of the other children, just because someone lives somewhere other than Canada it doesn't mean that they have less value then you. we could fund raise some money so people can make some homes for people who don't have any homes or have unstable homes.
I value that I can go home and sleep with a roof over my head and having access to food and water by walking up stairs. Every child should have a safe home because every child should should have the same rights as each other, and one of those rights should be to have a safe home. We can try to raise money from each school and then donate it to charity, we can also help by helping children in other countries by also donating money and fundraising.

Every child should have a home to sleep in because sleeping is good for you

I value that I have somewhere to relax without bombs dropping So that they can value that they have somewhere to relax without bombs dropping Donate to charities, and stop dropping bombs.
I value knowing that I have a Safe home to go to each night I think that each child should have a safe home to go to each night because it is important to get sleep and with a safe home they can rest without thoughts of what will happen that night I think that we should take some time and think about what is happening in our world and then possibly fundraise some money or supplies to help build homes
I value that I have a safe home to go to. I think each children should have a safe home and a safe country because its important to live happy, also a safe home they can rest and sleep without anybody's thoughts. We can raise money and help them out this way, or we can do is help them make homes for them to sleep, to rest ,to eat and to live.
I value that I am able to go home to eat good food and sleep well Every child should have a home to have a good childhood Possible what we can do is to help make homes and dotate more items to people in need
I value that I can come home to a safe house and wake up in a warm bed I think every child should have the rights as each other. That means they should be able to wake up in a safe house in a nice warm bed. I think this because every child should have a safe place to stay. We could make a website and hand out flyers to collect money, then we could send the money to them so they can build houses.
I value going to sleep every night in a real bed and having great food in the morning. Each child in the world should deserve to have a safe home because no one deserves to be treated any different than anyone else. We can make this happen by donating clothing to any Good Will place and donating food to the Food Bank.
I value that I can go home every night, have food on the table, enough clothes and a warm comfortable bed to sleep in I think each child should have a right to a safe home because I don't think any child deserves to life an unsafe life. Even if they have had some faults and have done some bad things, they still have a whole life to live and without decent shelter and food and clothes it's really hard to live that life I think we could make sure each kid is insured a safe home by doing fundraising such as selling chocolate bars, the recycling fundraiser we're doing for our Camp Olympia trip and we could also spread awareness by putting flyers in peoples mail boxes and all around town
Each child deserves the same thing no matter the country or family. We could send warm blankets and matresses.
Each child in the world should deserve to have a safe home because everyone is equal and we all deserve to have a safe home. I think what could happen is that we send some water and money to other countries who don't have a lot of water and money.
I value knowing  each day after school I can go to a safe home and I have easy acsess to food and water each day Each child should because they have the right to go home and feel safe and that they should always gat good sleep
I value the fact that I have a roof over my head, 24 hours of water and electricity.
I value that I have a safe home and a shelter that make me safe from all kind of danger, good clothes, healthy food, and free space without anybody's control. Every child in the world should have a safe home because every child need to have his own privacy and should like all other kids, having the same rights as everyone, Also, they should be in a caring society and should have health because without health they would die. I think that there are a lot of ways to make this happen but we should work very hard to make happen. So, we will try donating to charities and to countries that don't have a lot of money and were children are not receiving their rights. Also, if we tried to sell some stuff we can take the money and then donate them.
I value having a bed to sleep in every night.
I value having a bed to sleep in every night and have fresh water from a tap to drink and bath in. I think that every child should have a safe home to life in because every won is equal and should be treated the same and it is not fair to not treat every won fairly You could donate to charities or volunteer your time to helping make house for the homeless.

Feedback from: University of Toronto Schools

This is a well organised chart that demonstrates the value of the right to a safe home. More importantly, there are thoughtful contributions from each student about how this can be achieved. While many students have focused on fundraising to ensure a safe home for vulnerable children,  a few also duly noted that raising awareness of the issues was also critically important. This shows some higher order thinking!

Well done Cleardale Public School!

School Design - Challenge One

                   Questions

1. What makes you want to learn something new?

Things that makes us want to learn something new is when you're seeing someone who you look up to or anyone doing something and you want more information on that person what they are doing. Even if you see a video, movie,in person or reading a book you find that person doing something in there life you want to learn about it. The motivation to learn something is something you can't help when you are interested and committed to learning something almost nothing can stop you.

2.Where did you learn something to remember?

I have learned a lot of things to remember from the boys and girls club, it was a second home for me for a while. I learned about respect, how to play different sports and also that you can achieve anything in life if you keep trying. We do something to remember by making a mistake and doing things in your everyday life. You don’t need school to learn your weakness and strengths but you do need for your EDUCATION to help you with things to remember. You learn something to remember when the right study or job area comes along. You will learn lots during school but when you find the career you want to pressu. That will be your motivation, it will be your drive to succeed.

3.Should your teacher explain to you what you need to know for the future, or do you learn to make choices in school, to learn HOW you learn best?

A teacher's job isn’t to teach you the future the future you learn with life skills you need to put you on the right path. The teacher is their to make sure you stay on the path and have tools and the brain power to get where you need to be.We think the way you make choices in school will be the impact on the future.Which means get average grades doing fairly well and RESPECT is a big impact on the future. You are the only one who decides what the future holds. The teachers are there to guide you and make sure you know what you're doing.

4.Do you decide yourself WHAT you learn, HOW you learn and WHEN?

You practically do decide what you learn because you choose to listen. The way you choose what you learn is the your impact on yourself and the work if you don’t do it you don’t learn anything . How you would learn is how much time and hard working you are for it when you make mistakes you learn. The time you learn is in the future and in the past. You choose when you want to learn also because you choose to weather or not this matters to you and if you want to take on and pay your undivided attention.

5. What are the conditions for learning in a way that suits you best?

The conditions on your learning is listening and showing how much you care about it. Also shows if you want to move further in your life beyond in high school, and public school. The best ways to learn is from your past to where you are going or where you are now. The way to learn is to be involved and find the best way you like to learn maybe it takes you a few tries but, when you find the way that is meant for you you will just know because everything becomes much clearer and makes it way easier for you to work.

6. Can you become who you are at school?

School is one of the main places where you find out who you are, what your gonna be and what you plan to do in life is up to you bust school makes it more clear. You are becoming who you are in your everyday life you never stop learning stuff about yourself. Teachers help you the most with the knowledge and intelligence part of you but not so much in the life skills part of that it is up to you to get that down. But teachers are always there to hold your hand and help you on the path you choose to take. So as of becoming who you are school is a huge part of that because you learn more stuff about yourself and learn ways to get to your goal get to where you want to be in life.

How could the school/classroom look in 2020?

In 2020 most of the learning will be computerised. You could never replace students but the classroom would be more organized with electronical systems. Classrooms would also have machines monitoring the computers and electronics. Their would be many different ways to teach children, for instance if a student had to miss a day of school for some reason we might have the technology so that he gets the information he needs and doesn't fall behind. We would also make it that their are less kids per class, because then the teacher can get to you more often and make sure you understand things easier. We would still have to learn another language but this time kids should have a choice of what language they want to learn instead of being stuck and forced to participate in one. It would be really good idea to make sure at least 2 days a week all the different grades interact so you could have the older kids explain ways to learn to the younger kids, because everyone learns in different ways so bigger odds of finding a way you like.

           Ways to decorate the school

  • Education posters in halls and on walls

  • The hard work of the students.

  • By colours/mascot

  • Display all the different clubs and sign up sheets

  • Signs in hallway to direct you on  how to find stul ( fire alarms, Office, Kindergartens ex  )

  • Evacuation plans in every classroom for any scenario ( fire, tornado, code red )

Cleardale public school rating out of ten

Our school is pretty amazing not just our students, friends, staff, and our school family cleardale is  a great with their students and environment especially all the hard work and sports teams and relationships from students to teachers to parents in community.I would give cleardale a 8.5 as just the relationships and courage. The school looks are very well all the colour and the awards on the wall are really fancy looking.

The looks

Steven’s rating

Out of then I would have to give my school cleardale a 9 out of ten because for starters. The staff members are amazing I can have real conversations with a majority of them. Also the staff here always know what to say to make me feel better even the ones who just keep it real. Another reason why cleardale is so great is because if a student happened to forget their lunch they always have delicious and healthy backups to provide. I also love cleardale because of all the sports and clubs you get an opportunity to participate in like basketball and track are my favorite, you could also be part of the student council if you want a say in what goes on at this school honestly i don't see how cleardale could get any better.

IMG_0126.JPG

I realize I was suppose to be a photo of our favourite place in the school but we couldn't just pick one. We were going to take a photo of the front of the even though the we don't like snow Cleardale will always be great no matter what. We were thought of taking a photo of the gym or of the posters of the achievements cleardale students have done but cleardale is more than sports. We were gonna take a photo of the art work student council room library and the work cleardale is more than just academics. So we finally decided we would take a photo of the whole school because cleardale is all about the sports and achievements, the academics, the teachers, the phenomenal students. Over all cleardale kis just the best place to be.  .

If we could design a classroom it would be a safe and respected learning environment for both the student and the staff members. We would get rid of all of those dreadful dreadful chalk boards because those just make a huge mess. Instead we are going to replace them with a much much better tool white boards because you can erase them with pretty much no mess or hastle. A cool feature we have decided is to add white boards to all of the desk because then kids will always have an available work space to use, that will make it easier to solve questions. If kids get tempted to draw on their desk it will not leave permanent damage. We would have inspirational and really really cheesy posters hanging to remind the people why they are here. Also we would group all of the desk because people have different ideas when it comes to different subjects and two minds are better than one. Also in our newer better classroom the smart board would be larger and both people could be touching at the same time. All of the students in this class would get their own personal little laptop computers because then all their work could be computerized and the teacher will know if you hand your work in late. If your work is computerized that also means you can't forget it so that leaves almost no excuse why your work is not done. So is we could remake a classroom I guess this is what it would look like.

Dear Urmila,

We are writing this letter to you for five reasons and five reasons only, and they are: asking question you questions about how your life was in Nepal, What you really liked about how your life turned out to look like, What we liked about your video on the global teenager project page, and what we did not understand and were hoping you would explain, what are your favourite hobbies.

Let’s start off like this, we really liked your video, we feel that would be able to talk to the kids today and help them learn about how hard work should be done. We have been wanting to ask you this for a while, what is a kamlari girl? We liked how well you got the message across that there really are people in the world that there's things i the world that are going on and just because they aren't happening to themselves, that doesn’t mean they aren’t happening.Mainly the part that caught our attention was the part when you said that your father sold you when you were younger because he couldn’t take care of you. Both of us find that rather bizarre, as here in Canada you would never hear of a situation like that  .

We have a couple of questions for you and we were wondering if you could answer them. How did you eat as you were a kamlari girl? How did you survive on only rotten food?

Sincerely

Grace and Khalid from Cleardale

Where do we get our clothes from?

Most of our clothes are made overseas in rural and poor areas in the world as it’s much cheaper and more work gets done. The countries where most of our clothes are made, from the high street are made in are Bangladesh, India, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. The clothes in our closet are made by workers who get paid as little as 40p an hour and the conditions of these factories are considered to be slave labour. Next time you buy your clothes check the tag to see where it’s come from. It could be some part of the world you wouldn’t even know about.

No Education in Refugee Camps

Letters - from Peer Scholar (but we were late):

May 17, 2016

Hello, my name is Hasan. I am in grade eight at Cleardale Public school, I live in Canada. I am from Iraq but I was born in Canada,

I am going to talk to you about what we learned in the children's rights group. We learned that once someone gets deported they are not allowed to go to other countries. For example a school in the children's rights page interviewed a man that got deported from the attacks. He was a Syrian refugee, he was talking about how terrified and scared he was until he moved. He also said he kept trying to get farther and farther away but kept on getting sent back. I feel like he still did not feel safe in the location he got sent to and thought about getting as far as he could away, they should not be deporting someone to keep them safe if they do not even feel safe in the location they got sent too, he said he tried to get farther and farther away but kept getting sent back. If someone that has been a victim of attacks they should have the right to choose where they want to go.

The way we can improve one children's rights is every month we send supplies to help them out for their rights, for example we can send them a couple gallons of clean water, food, new clothes, pillows, blankets and sleeping bags, toys and anything else we think they need to help them out. I think this because it would be able for them to slowly get better and  maybe even get some hope in their lives. Another reason I think this will improve their lives is it can improve their way of living in their homes. They could be sleeping on dirt and have very dirty water. If we keep sending them these supplies it might slowly improve their living style in their homes. As I said I feel like this is a good way to help kids have a better life. Nobody should ever be treated this way at all. They have the exact same rights as us and should not be treated or tormented this way. They should be able to have a good normal life just like us. A few are even being shot or slaughtered like animals. I do not know how this world came to all of this but no innocent victims should  get in the way of any of this.

This is what I think children should have in their lives, my name is Hasan and this is what I think is right.

May 16, 2016

Hello, My name is Cole I am 14 years old and I live in Canada. I go to Cleardale Public school and I am in grade 8.

During the learning circle process I learned about some of the different children’s rights and the things that many children have to go through.

My plan to improve one children's right would be to help give more children in less privileged countries a chance to go to school. This could be done by having people go over to these countries and helping to build schools or at the built schools we could have volunteers go and teach children at these schools. I am sure that there would be plenty of volunteers. I personally think that it wouldn't be very hard to organize something like this. I know that my church does a lot of things like this and they find people willing to volunteer easily. Fund raising for something like this wouldn't be very difficult either if it was on a larger scale, even the church I go to raises a lot of money by asking for donations if possible. I think that if a project like this would be on an even larger scale it would be much easier to raise money. I believe this plan could improve the conditions in the lives of children because if they are well educated it will be easier for them to get jobs when they are older. If these children have jobs then they can take care of their family better than they could without a job.

That is my plan to improve the lives of children and what it could do to improve the lives of children.

Dear Global Teenager Project,

Hi, today I will be writing to you to tell you a bit about what I have learned while completing this project and a way of how we could help improve children's rights. To start off though, I should probably introduce myself.

My name is Grace and I am a grade eight student at Cleardale Public school. I am 13 years old and I live in London Ontario, Canada; so for the most part I am used to women's equal rights and unbenefited children’s rights aren’t a thing.

A real eye opener I found while working with you guys, is that I learned there is a lot more to a story than what is said. I know that sounds like a really cheesy line, but it’s true. I was one of the students who worked on the letter to Urmila along with my classmate Khalid and I think we both realized that even when you think you know the entire story, you don’t.  For example we learned that Urmila was a slave for a good portion of her life, but we didn’t know how she came to be a slave. She explained in her talk how her father sold her when she was only 5 years old. I seriously can’t imagine living a life like that.

Next I have an idea that might help children and their living situations. I have done a bit of research on some things affecting children every year.  I found that many children die every year due to the lack of unsafe/unclean drinking water.

I know some people that have worked with The Thirst Project, a campaign to help raise money to build wells for clean drinking water in places like Africa. I think it should be a right for children to have clean, safe drinking water and so it would be really cool to maybe partner, or even just get many people/schools to donate to The Thirst Project as even just a toonie will make a huge difference. I mean, 25$ will give one person safe drinking water for the rest of their life! Now a school alone could probably raise about 400$ and imagine getting 5 or 6 schools involved? Many lives would be saved. The best part about this campaign, is that 100% of all donations go towards water projects.

I think The Global Teenager Project should definitely consider doing a project like this with all of the schools they are working with, because it could save many, many lives.

Sincerely, Grace

My name is Tony, I am from London, Ontario. I try to do excellent in school, as I wish to continue my education to a University level, I do karate, I am amazing with computers, I have an amazing family, and a home to which I feel safe from harm.

I have learned many things during this Learning Circle process. I have witnessed different perspectives of racism from other countries. I've learned how big racism was many years ago. I have also learned about things such as microaggressions, and how you can do a microagression and not even realize it. You might ask someone who looks asian "Why do you not have an accent?", and that can be considered a microaggression. I also learned multiple ways we can put a stop to racism. For example, we could end stereotypes, a lot of racism starts with stereotypes, and we also learned how to avoid telling a microagression. Not only have we learned abot racism, but we have learned about children living in other parts of the world, and how they may not be as fortunate as us. Here, we have great education. In other war-torn countries, there is little to no education. In our homes, we feel safe from explosives, guns, and unwanted activities. While in places like Syria, people living there are at risk of being shot, and possibly kidnapped.

One right that can be improved is the childrens right to provision (education, health care, and good living conditions). Childrens do not have this stuff due to not enough humanitarian-aid. They are being sold as property, and abused. If every country has a proper government, and laws enforced (with some changed), all children could have this right, and experience this right. This can be achieved by more peacekeeping missions from the UN, or other humanitarian-aid workers, and a temporary government/police force ran by a different country. I believe that this right should be improved because right now there are these rights, but these rights are not being enforced. So this plan is simply to just enforce the rights that the country's current government fails to enforce.

This plan can help by eliminating corrupt government/police forces, have a stable temporary government/police force until an election can happen. With a stable government, people will not have to abuse children in the first place to obtain money. With proper police and laws, if anyone does attempt to abuse a child, police can deal with it to save the child from harm. With children being safe from harm, they are able to go to school to be educated, they are able to go to a hospital should they get injured, and their parents will not be poor and have a decent home. If all of this can be achieved, then children will have proper education, they will have access to affordable health care, and they will have good living conditions to which they feel safe, without the fear of being discriminated, kidnapped, or bombed.

Hello readers, I am Bria* from Cleardale Public School in London, Ontario Canada.

I am writing this paper about what I’ve learned in GTP and what children’s right I think Ii can improve. First off, my eyes haven’t really been opened to anything during GTP but It has reinforced my understanding for the things we discussed.

I have read all of the basic child rights and I think the child’s right to food can be improved. I have an idea that every year or so we could send a small boat or ship filled with donated non perishable food items from generous donors. If we even sent smaller boats more commonly to areas in poverty like parts of Africa and  parts of asia. This wouldn’t have to be transported straight from here to those places, it could be sent to areas closer to them, then to them. I think everyone would be surprised by the large amount of food donors their would be. Their would be a reasonably high cost to fuel the boats, but isn’t it worth it considering all of the hungry children that would be fed. Also, if the food is non perishable you don’t have to worry about the food going bad in between the time it is donated and the time it arrives at the area it is going to. Although don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting this as the only thing to do about hunger, any ways of transporting food from donors to the hungry is a way to make a difference.

Dear Jury

My name is Hemen, I am 14 years old. I have 4 siblings. I am from Iraq; but I have been born and raised in Canada. I like playing basketball, I also like watching the Raptors play ball.  I like to play PS4 with my friends. My favorite season is summer because I enjoy going out and playing with my friends.

I learned that I am very fortunate to go to a safe home with a roof over my head everyday. I learned that I am very fortunate to have food on the table everyday. I learned that I am very fortunate to feel safe and included. I have to be very thankful for what my parents have done for me. During the learning circle I learned many things. For example I learned that millions of people around the world are stuck in refugee camps, people are dying because of starvation and dehydration. Some people are not even that fortunate to be in refugee camps, they are in the middle of nowhere trying to find food and water. Some people have lost their parents and are trying to survive by themselves somehow, with no support or help from anyone. Many of these kids don't get health care. I also learned that many kids get abused or are taken away from their parents to go to factories and get one penny every day. All of these things are very sad. We have to find a solution or do something about this problem. Thousands of people are dying every single day.

I want every children to have a place to go to, to learn make friends and play some sports. Every child should have this right. I would like to improve this very important right. I think that every city in the world should have at least one school for that place. Although this is going to be a dream come true if it does happen, it is going to be very difficult. I think if every developed country donates $1,000,000 this plan could work and with all the charities and other fundraising programs this could add a little bit more money, to these developing countries. Hopefully one day with all of the support from people everyone can be able to go to a place to learn and make friends. This plan can improve many children's lives around the world with a smile. What a great feeling that would be seeing a kid going to school for the first time with a big smile there is no better feeling than that in the world. Kids would also make lots of friends, play sports together and have a chat. Let’s all make this plan possible.

I think that children's teenager project is important because every children has the right to vote, to have a voice.I love this website because it helps every child to have the right to talk.I honestly love this website and a big thank you to all of you who created this. There are thousand of children who don't have the right to vote and to speak up for them self. Children have rights and liberties like adults. Children have the right as do the adults, to have an opinion, to express it and to meet in the order to share their speech and their point of view.

I had some spelling errors and some other thoughts that I would liked to add in there. I really wasn't every child to the right for everything. Mostly girls in most countries girls are not even count as a person, all they do all day is work, clean up the house, cook and wash the cloth and the dishes. I want every parent to know that girls are very important and to respect girls because they have the right to be treated in a good and respected way.

My name is Bridgette Hunter, and I was born Feb.18,2002. I have 1 brother and two sisters. I am from london,Ontario and I go to cleardale public school. My favourite sport is swimming and my fav. colour is purple. The school I went to before this is VCA which stands for Victory Christian Academy.  I made some good friends at VCA but I have good friends at Cleardale too.

I learned that there are a lot of things that children should have the right to do. For example all children should have the right to live in a safe home and have the right to go to school. All children should also have the right to be happy and follow there religion. An eye-opener for me is that we are going to get to talk with all over the world. Also how much is means to protect the children now because like everyone says they are the future.

My plan is to put at least two schools where countries who really need them. I think this will improve children's lives because they have a chance to learn what we learn do what we do. Also they will be more involved and they could get good jobs and pay for their family. Also they can I think buy water so they can drink in countries where they don't have a lot of water. So that is what I would change so children can have the right to go to school.

Hello, my name is Faisal, and I’m a syrian teenager who goes to Cleardale Public school. I Am now attending my last year in elementary school before I head on to high school. I am 13 years old and I live in Canada. I have a lovely family of 6 people, my 2 parents, me and my 3 siblings. I have everything I need and everything i ask for such as food, a safe, dry home and I’m very thankful for everything.

I have a plan to stop hunger, and it is actually very simple. My plan to stop most of the hunger in the world would be to stop wasting all the leftover food. Instead of wasting the food at restaurants or anywhere you are, there would be a leftover food station where you could drop off all the food you don't want and then later it would get donated to a place. This place would then donate the food to to a place where they need it. That is my plan on how to stop a lot of the hunger issues that are happening in the world.

Hello, my name is Amber and I am from Canada. I am in grade 8 and go to Cleardale Public School.

As a participant in the global teenger project I have learned many things about what is going on in the world and have learned more about child labour as well as refugee camps. An eye opener was how many famous brands use child labour or once did. I also learned that there is a huge lack of education in refugee camps which is understandable considering the situation the refugees may be in.

With further research of the lack of education in refugee camps I learned that many people are trying to help, many people are personally flying out to these camps to help with education. Some people bring lots of school supplies and some teacher volunteers, there are some people who are really trying to create a bright future for refugees.

Dear,Global Teenager ProjectTuesday, May 17th, 2016

Hello, today I will be talking to you about what I learned going through this project and my views on children’s rights. First, I would like the introduce myself. My name is Madison. I am fourteen years old and I am from London,Ontario Canada.

During this project I learned not every kid has a safe home. Not every kid gets to go to school. Girls can be and have been traded to work as slaves and I don't find it right that it is okay to do this. It's opened my eyes to see what it is like to be a girl living somewhere she can't go to school. Can't go out and do things because she has to stay in and work, either for whoever she was traded to or just in her own home doing dishes and cleaning around the house. Speaking of these being things I have learned these are the things I would like to be talking about as my children’s right.I believe that all children no matter their race, sex or age. Many children are taken out of school at a certain age and have to stay home for cooking and cleaning and if there are babies to take care of them. Most of these children who are being taken out of school are girls. Girls no matter their age should be allowed in school they have a right to an education. Sometimes just because they are girls they aren’t even allowed to start school at the age of 4-5. Boys are not the only ones who can do things like be president, be an astronaut, build a company up from the ground. United states is possibly coming up on their first female president and it is great. Women deserve all the privileges that men have. People think that the president of the United States should be a man but if that man cannot fulfil his duties and a woman can, she deserves  to be the one running the country , not someone who will destroy everything past presidents have worked so hard to achieve. Also even if a girl wanted to start a company and isn’t educated how is she going to. If she doesn’t know  the value of money. These little things you learn in school now you would need out in the world of business. Girls have a right to do exactly the same things as boys. As a solution it should be that no matter what there should be at least 10 girls in every classroom. Business women should talk to girls about being powerful even when people make you feel weak. Girls are powerful and if anyone tells you different don’t believe them because you’re just as powerful as you let yourself to be. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Hope this helps.

Sincerely, Madison

Dear Jury,

Hello I am Stephanie Velasquez, I live in London Ontario Canada and I am currently attending Cleardale Public School in grade 8. At cleardale we have an amazing music program. The grade  fives play the recorder. Grade 6 play the violin and the grade 7 and 8 can either play the violin.viola, bass,or cello. I play the violin because I like the way it sounds.

Here at Cleardale we have great teachers that help us learn, I think it was a really great idea that the grade 8 teachers had us  do the Global Teenager Project because I learned a lot from it.While we were doing the different challenges for the Global Teenager Project, I learned that here in Canada we are very fortunate to have a safe home. Every day after school I go home and I have food to eat and share amongst my family. I also have clean water to drink and at night time I have a comfy bed to go to. But not everyone has the opportunity to do that some people might go to a refugee camp or some might live in a tent. I learned that in some places around the world people have to walk for miles just to get clean water, here all we have to do is turn on the tap. My plan is to send water bottles to countries that don't have a lot of water and to build homes for people that live in tents. I think my plan can improve the conditions of children's lives because they get to live in a nice stable home with clean water. If the children go to school they can come back home happy to a nice home with food on the table. I think that it's good that now I have an understanding of how it's like in other places in the world because I use to complain about my food and now I am glad that I have food on my plate and water to drink and I really hope that we can help those who don't  have a house,  food, or water.

This website help a lot of kids vote for their rights. Most kids in other countries don't have the rights to vote for anything. The website was a really nice website for kids to say about how they feel and how we can all help and change that. This kids all should have the rights to vote and the right to speak. We should all help and change that.

                               Now I’m talk about myself

My name is Zeyat and I go to Cleardale i’m 14 year old student. I was born in Iraq and I  was there for only 6 years. I only when to school for 1-2 months only so I didn't see a lot. My family moved from Iraq to Turkey. Turkey wasn’t easy to life there. We didn’t know anybody. It was hard but we got through there. We were there for four years and I when to school for  fours and it was good. None of the kids in Iraq or Turkey had the right to vote for their rights. When I moved Turkey with my family I was 9. I was really happy when we got the call to come to canada. We came to canada and now I got the rights to vote.

A Letter to the GTP Jury

The GTP Jury

Dear GTP Jury, I am writing this letter to you for three reasons, and only three reasons. Reason number one I want to let the Jury know who I am, for example what school I attend or what year I was born in. Reason number two, the lessons we here in London learned during the learning circle process. Reason number three to design a plan to improve at least one children's right, and how I can design a plan to help improve at least one children's right, and how my plan can improve the conditions in the lives of children?

Well let me start by saying that I am a 13 year old boy who attends a school called Cleardale Public School, in London, Ontario, Canada. I was born on September 11, 2002. I have lived in Canada for my whole life, and honestly I have enjoyed every single second of the 13 years that I have lived here. The people here in Canada are respectful, most of the time they are always respectful, Canadians and I truly are amazing. I have been attending the wonderful school called Cleardale Public school. I have been going to this school ever since I was four years old and started kindergarten at that age. Next year I will be graduating from Cleardale and going to High School, a new chapter in my life that I cannot wait to start.

We learned that there are whole lot more children in the world that are either homeless or suffering of slavery, more than expected. We watched a lot of videos about those children suffering of slavery, and if they were saved, what their life looks like now, compared to before when their lives were affected by their “masters”.

How I can design a plan to improve at least one children's right, and how I can design a plan to help improve at least one children's right, and how my plan can improve the conditions in the lives of children? In order to design a plan I think that each country in the world should have their Citizens donate at least a dollar a day, to the nearest charity for children, but only if they wanted to. It will improve the rights of children because some of them will have enough money to drink water and eat real food. My plan will improve the conditions in the lives of children by giving them healthy water and real food to eat.
